Chapter 4 in Methodology and Economics, 1988, pp 54-67 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The limitations of the Popperian and Kuhnian methodologies have contributed toward economists increasingly turning to the work of Imre Lakatos (1922–74) for methodological succour. Lakatos’ approach is interesting because, as we have seen above, he was critical of both Popper and Kuhn, and his methodology is something of a synthesis of aspects of these two approaches.
