Chapter 3 in Mind, Language, Machine, 1988, pp 10-16 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The consideration of language as a system of relations gives rise to a vertiginous question, one that feels like a petit-mal seizure in the mind of God: what if everything is a network of differences, nothing… centred or substantial at all, concrete and particular only by the delusions of desire? The question prompts a terror, an intoxication with the bottomless and indeterminate.
