A chapter in Unemployment in Europe, 1989, pp 1-7 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In April 1986 the European Production Study Group and the Department of Economics of the University of Limburg organised a conference on ‘Unemployment in Europe’ in Maastricht, the Netherlands.1 The aim of this conference was to discuss papers on all aspects of labour market research, and to relate them to the unemployment situation in Europe. Papers, starting often from different theoretical inspirations, were presented on the following topics: labour supply and unemployment; demand for labour; unemployment and discrepancies on the labour market; wage formation and wage flexibility; policy measures with respect to unemployment, both on the macrolevel and on the microlevel.
