Choice, Priorities and Decision: Spotlight (BBC) and Today (TSW)
Alastair Hetherington
Chapter 18 in News in the Regions, 1989, pp 167-176 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract BBC SW in Plymouth has 19 journalists, including those in Exeter and West Cornwall — less than the 21 for BBC in the Midlands but more than the 17 for Look North in Yorkshire and Humberside. TSW has 20 — far below the staffing of Central Television, with 84 to cover the East and West Midlands and Thames Valley, and also below the 35 for YTV’s Calendar. TSW’s Today is nevertheless at least as good as the others, and in some ways better.
