A chapter in Beyond the BBC, 1989, pp 218-222 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The bulk of the research for Beyond the BBC was undertaken between 1981 and 1984. Since then many things have changed in broadcasting; more have remained the same. Although Government policy is now to expose British broadcasting to largely US and other foreign competition via a weakened national system, as well as permitting more or less unlimited access to the British market through satellite, it does seem as if substantial elements of the current arrangements will survive.
