Chapter 5 in The Economics of Marx’s Grundrisse, 1989, pp 79-90 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Marx approaches the issue of circulation (turnover) of capital from five vantage points: A. The historical evolution of circulation: from simple (‘pure’) circulation to capitalist production (‘developed exchange’). B. The general concept of circulation: circulation of capital and circulation of money. C. The threefold character of circulation (circulation as a continuous process): 1. The total process. 2. Small-scale circulation. 3. Large-scale circulation. D. The overall turnover of capital: 1. The two moments of the production process. 2. The two moments of the circulation process. 3. Fixed capital and circulating capital. E. Value, surplus value, and profit.
