Full Employment and the Balance of Payments
Andrew Britton
Chapter 6 in Conquering Unemployment: The Case for Economic Growth, 1989, pp 186-207 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The movement of the balance of payments into substantial deficit on current account is fresh reason for anxiety about the condition of the British economy. How can anything like full employment be restored in this country if we are running a deficit on the balance of payments even when output is so depressed that two or three million people are unemployed?
