Technology and Global Economic Security
Dieter Ernst
Chapter 23 in Technology Transfer in the Developing Countries, 1990, pp 291-303 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, I will deal with the role of technology in the current restructuring of the world economy. Unequal access to technology has played a major role in increasing global economic insecurity. The generation and diffusion of both scientific knowledge and key technologies are in fact increasingly subordinated to the requirements of global competition. This adds a fourth dimension to the already tense international economic rivalries surrounding (i) international trade, (ii) investment and (iii) the regulation of international capital markets.
