Conclusion
Anne Lincoln Fitzpatrick
A chapter in The Great Russian Fair, 1990, pp 202-212 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This study began with an examination of the elements of backwardness which necessitated the development of periodic trade in Russia. Having studied in considerable depth the various facets of the Nizhnii Novgorod Fair, it becomes clear to what extent the diminution of this backwardness impacted upon at least one such periodic market. The influence of industrial development, growing transportation, the natural penetration of commodity relations into the countryside and evolving state policy all had a tremendous effect upon the Nizhnii Novgorod Fair and its participants.
