Abstract: Abstract Since the course and features of the current great depression have been varied and complex, it is easy to lose sight of the basic direction and characteristics of capitalist development in our age. Our concerns tend to be focused on the changes in each aspect of our society and each phase of the alternating processes of the world economy. Although such changes are all quite important and interesting, we have constantly to endeavour to locate them in the total picture of the current situation of capitalism. Otherwise, we cannot assess the historical significance and limitations of the developments in each of those separate aspects, or the alternatives to them, within the framework of an objective recognition of the politico-economic dynamics of the present world.
