Chapter 7 in Cultural, Structural and Strategic Change in Management Buyouts, 1991, pp 149-175 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In September 1983, John Collier Menswear was bought out from its parent company, United Drapery Stores (which had itself been taken over two months previously by Hanson Trust), for £47.5 million. The purchasers were four of John Collier’s senior management and a consortium of institutional investors. In competition with a bid from the Burton group, an arch rival in the menswear clothing market, the management succeeded in pulling off one of the largest buyouts to date.
