Chapter 10 in Ethical Banking, 1991, pp 175-181 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The concept of ‘reciprocal obligation’ lies at the heart of ethical banking. When a bank fails to abide by this concept it moves into the murky world of usury. When a customer fails to respect the concept, the bank is drawn into the swamps of liquidation and bankruptcy. The very word ‘bankruptcy’ is redolent of an undesirable state of affairs, a lack of some desirable quality.
