Recent Developments Towards a Closer European Integration: a French Perspective

Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to give a short evaluation on the run up towards a unified Europe in 1988–89. In selecting the main elements, I need some criteria, which by nature will be partly subjective. Hence my starting point is that the achieved progress towards European unification may be appreciated at two touchstones: the extent of the bulk of specific and partial realizations; and the consistency of these realizations. Consequently, it is useful to start with an overall view of the process of European integration.
