Chapter 16 in The South African Economy, 1910–90, 1992, pp 227-235 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In 1961 South Africa introduced a new currency, the Rand, at the rate of two Rands to the South African pound. At the same time a decimal system was introduced. In the years that followed this change the economy experienced rapid economic and population growth. This continued throughout the 1960s, but gave way to a slower period of growth in the 1970s and 1980s.
