Development Economics in Perspective
Sukhamoy Chakravarty
Chapter 10 in The Dynamics of the Wealth of Nations, 1993, pp 275-299 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:

Economists from the middle of the eighteenth century onwards have been writing books on the subject even when the discipline of economics had not emerged as a distinct body of thought or as a self-contained mode of reasoning.
