Chapter 6 in Planning and Market in Soviet and East European Thought, 1960s–1992, 1993, pp 103-121 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter is devoted to the common and contrasting features of the debates in the 1980s and 1990–1992 in the countries under review. To make the debates more understandable, a very brief survey of the economic and political conditions, as well as the economic reforms, is given. These surveys deal mostly with the situation as it developed until the collapse of the socialist system. The situation after that time is discussed only briefly. In all the surveys, comparative aspects are mentioned. In the country studies, some of the points mentioned here will be elaborated.
