Chapter Chapter Nine in Cross-Border Entry in European Retail Financial Services, 1993, pp 268-284 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The process of opening up national financial services markets to foreign competition in the EC may be comparable to the movements in the United States to relax the restrictions on out-of-state entry by banks. I focus in this chapter on banking services rather than retail financial services in general, as this provides the most interesting parallel to the opening up of European financial services market. In particular, regulatory restrictions in the US prevent a similar cross-industry penetration between the insurance and banking sectors as in Europe.
