The Food Industry Perspective

Chapter 9 in Agriculture in the Uruguay Round, 1994, pp 182-202 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Since the publication of the draft ‘Final Act’ of the Uruguay Round of the GATT negotiations in December 1991 (GATT, 1991), the Round’s likely final shape has been clear, on the basis that agreement is ultimately reached. As a consequence, it has been possible to start drawing up a provisional assessment of how far the food industry’s aims have been met in the Round. The assessment had to remain provisional as the text of the agricultural part of the Final Act had not been finalised at the time of writing (November 1992): important participants, including the European Community (the EC) and Japan had not accepted it in full.
