Chapter 9 in The Advanced Materials Revolution and the Japanese System of Innovation, 1994, pp 160-179 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The objective of this chapter is to analyse the formation and main components of the most significant Japanese basic research programme in superconductivity — the International Superconductivity Technology Centre (Istec) — which aims at promoting national and international cooperation. This example will also be used to assess how the Japanese system is coping with the necessity of designing national programmes in areas close to the scientific frontier.
