Chapter 5 in The Construction Company in and out of Recession, 1995, pp 77-91 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract There have been substantial improvements in the innovative and flexible approach of contracting companies selling their expertise and services. Because of the recession contractors have been forced to explore every possible way of obtaining work to maintain their turnover. This has been reinforced by the emphasis on core businesses of which contracting is the most important. They have done this by broadening the existing services they offer and by offering new services or new ways of supplying services.
