Chapter 4 in Why did the Socialist System Collapse in Central and Eastern European Countries?, 1995, pp 58-70 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Labour-management relations as a topic did not receive great attention in the literature about the socialist economic system. However, in my opinion, in order to understand the working of the socialist economic system, primarily of the traditional system and its shortcomings, it is important to become familiar with labour-management relations, as they existed under socialism. As is known, these determine to a great degree the extent to which enterprises can meet their goals. Conflicts between management and labour may have a negative effect on the work ethic of workers, which in turn has an effect on the quality of products and economic efficiency in enterprises.
