Trade Policy in Transition: The China Story
Alasdair MacBean
Chapter 11 in Trade and Development, 1996, pp 195-213 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This story is a modest attempt to follow in the tradition of the seminal work of Jagdish Bhagwati (1978) and Anne Krueger (1978) in assembling evidence on the effects of trade policy on economic and social progress in many developing countries. It also follows on from Jagdish Bhagwati’s recent book, India in Transition: Freeing the Economy (1993), where he draws attention to the changing perceptions and reality about the relative progress of the two Asian giants (pp. 6–17).
