Chapter 1 in External Economies and Cooperation in Industrial Districts, 1997, pp 1-7 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this study is to explore the potential of the industrial district ‘model’ to analyse two footwear clusters in Italy, the ‘land’ of districts, and two other clusters in a less developed country (LDC), Mexico. Through empirical research we assess the extent to which the core characteristics of the ‘model’ correspond to the clusters considered. The investigation focuses upon external economies and cooperation which stem directly from the key stylized facts of the industrial district ‘model’, with particular emphasis upon the intense linkages within the clusters examined.
