Abstract: Abstract In Chapters 1 and 2 we examined regionalism in a historical perspective and in the context of globalization which distinguishes, inter alia, the new phase of regionalism from the old. Whereas the earlier forms of regionalism during the Cold War era were politically motivated, driven largely by a search for greater security and stability, the recent proliferation of regional groupings has been more of a response to the process of globalization in trade, investment and production.
