Swiss Competition Policy in the Last Decade

Chapter 3 in Economic Policy in Switzerland, 1997, pp 35-61 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter on Swiss competition policy has been written on the occasion of the 10-years’ anniversary of the Studienzentrum Gerzensee. The center was founded at the time when a law on competition was adopted. Given its superb achievements, we can only wish that the center will further develop. But, as professional economists, we should also rejoice that the 1985 law on competition has recently been fundamentally revised. Rejoice and remain vigilant; as argued in this chapter, the new law has inherited from the previous framework a number of features and concepts which could, and should, be improved upon. The main purpose of this review, which draws on a wider study of Swiss competition policy, is thus to illustrate those areas where we see the greatest room for improvement.
