The Dialectic of the Value Form: the Social Evolution of Capital Markets in the US

Tony Tinker

Chapter 2 in Financial Institutions and Social Transformations, 1997, pp 28-46 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract A sure sign of an economy in crisis is when devotees of neo-classical economics plunge into a neo-Marxist Kondratieff wave analysis for insights into the current situation. Desperation reaches panic levels when prestigious conservative publications such as Barron’s (10 June 1991) join the chorus, as in a lead interview article with the managers of one of the world’s largest mutual funds. The article was called ‘Apocalyptic Vision’.
