The Impact of Agricultural Technology on Sustainable Land Resource Utilization in Africa: The Case of Semi-Arid Tanzania
William Rugumamu
Chapter Chapter 10 in Environment and Sustainable Development in Eastern and Southern Africa, 1998, pp 144-160 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract It has often been said that Africa is a continent in crisis. Although there are some areas of relative prosperity based on massive export of non-renewable primary resources, most of the continent is suffering from a continual drain on, and degradation of its natural resources — plant cover, soils, animal resources and climate. This state of affairs had lead to the poverty of the African people and the lowering of their quality of life (Timberlake 1985).
