Chapter Chapter 2 in Restructuring the Malaysian Economy, 1999, pp 5-23 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In order to place the ensuing discussion of labour markets and human resources in context, it will be useful at the outset to review some key aspects of Malaysia’s economic performance. In keeping with national concerns for development with equality, this chapter will consider both economic growth and the distribution of household incomes. The other important element analyzed in this chapter is Malaysia’s management of aggregate demand, with a particular focus on the critical decade of the 1980s and trends in unemployment.
