Chapter Chapter 7 in Restructuring the Malaysian Economy, 1999, pp 205-223 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Even if one excludes government services, which will be taken up together with a more general discussion of the public sector in the following chapter, the remainder of services contributed 32 per cent of GDP and provided 35 per cent of total employment in 1993. This follows a decade and a half in which employment growth in services (excluding government services) exceeded that in either manufacturing or agriculture and related activities, as may be seen from the following:1 Annual Growth (%) 1978–1993 GDP Employment Agriculture 3.5 −1.7 Manufacturing 10.1 6.2 Services 8.0 6.3
