Chapter 15 in Development, Governance and the Environment in South Asia, 1999, pp 257-278 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Sustainable agriculture is challenged by several environmental and social issues such as soil degradation (soil erosion, salinity, alkalinity, soil contamination, etc.), water degradation, loss of biodiversity, increased population pressure and greater incidence of poverty (either absolute or relative poverty). To address these environmental issues there is a need for formulating appropriate policies and institutional changes.
