Abstract: Abstract In this chapter I attempt to pick up all the threads that I have deliberately left loose so far. Probably, Smith was no great sympathiser with the French Revolution. But his writing supports all three of the slogans of that revolution. He was in favour of liberty, of equality and of the one that is most usually ignored nowadays, namely fraternity. Therefore the first half of this chapter reviews what Smith has to say to us on each of those three subjects.
