When Does Privatization Work? The Impact of Private Ownership on Corporate Performance in the Transition Economies

Roman Frydman, Cheryl Gray, Marek Hessel and Andrzej Rapaczynski

Chapter 3 in The Economics of Transition, 2007, pp 37-69 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract One of the authors of this chapter, Marek Hessel, died before the publication of this volume. He was a pre-eminent specialist in corporate governance in the post-Communist countries, an author of one of the first codes of professional responsibility in the region, an expert on management, and an invaluable collaborator. He is sorely missed by all his friends and colleagues.
