Abstract:
Abstract Although the monetary policy apparatus described in the last chapter was in place by the mid-1980s, and the interest rate reform was discussed throughout that decade, the authorities of the People’s Bank of China did not exercise its role as central banker, formulating and implementing monetary policy, until the summer of 1993when inflation hit the Chinese economy.
