Chapter 5 in The Future of Mobile Communications, 2002, pp 128-161 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Attempts to consolidate incumbents in Europe have so far proved to be extremely unsuccessful: Deutsche Telekom failed to take over Telecom Italia; Telia and Telenor failed to merge; Telefonica failed to win KPN; and TDC failed to merge with Telenor – and these were only the tip of the iceberg because, for example, attempts other than via take-overs to link up the likes of BT with Telefonica and Deutsche Telekom with France Telecom also fell apart.
