Mass Privatization as a Condition for Change: The Role of Polish NIFs

Jan Jezak

Chapter 4 in Change Management in Transition Economies, 2003, pp 45-54 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter first discusses the principles of Poland’s unique programme of mass privatization — the National Investment Fund (NIF) programme, which was launched in 1995 to restructure and privatize over 500 Polish enterprises. It then goes on to consider the consequences of the programme on the enterprises concerned, including the introduction of new management systems. The final section looks at NIFs as investors of venture capital and their investment strategies for the years 2000 to 2003.
