Abstract: Abstract Situated at the intersection between Central Europe and Russia, Central Asia and the Middle East, Ukraine is an important emerging market with substantial potential for growth in both trade and foreign investment. With its 603, 700 sq km, Ukraine is the second largest country in Europe, slightly larger than France. It shares borders with numerous key Eastern European countries, including Belarus (891 km) in the north, Russia (1,576 km) in the northeast and east, Poland (428 km) in the northwest, Slovakia (90 km) in the west, and Hungary (103 km), Moldova (939 km), and Romania (531 km) in the southwest. The Black Sea and the Sea of Azov form the southern coastline (2,782 km) of Ukraine. The landscape of Ukraine consists mostly of fertile plains and plateaus, the main geographical zones being steppe, wood-steppe and mixed woodlands. Mountains are found only in the west (the Carpathian Mountains, with Mount Goverla, 2,061 m) and the far south (the Crimean Peninsula, with Mount Roman-Cosh, 1,545 m). In most of the country, the climate is temperate continental with cold winters and warm summers, with hot spots enjoying a Mediterranean climate on the south Crimean coast. The average temperature is 67°F (19°C) in summer and 21°F (minus 6°C) in winter.
