And then there is Beijing
Michael Backman
Chapter Chapter 25 in The Asian Insider, 2004, pp 201-206 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Beijing has long been the poor older brother of Shanghai, concerned with the high-minded pursuits of public service while younger brother Shanghai grubbied itself with commerce and got rich in the process. But Beijing is changing. Being awarded the 2008 Summer Olympics gave the city’s administration the impetus to undertake civil improvements and so now millions are being spent on beautifying and perfecting it. And it’s working. Beijing is becoming beautiful.
