Chapter 1 in The Political and Economic History of North Cyprus, 2019, pp 1-28 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This introductory chapter starts with an insight of motivations of the author in writing the book. After sketch of his past in relation to the history of northern Cyprus, Ekici outlines the organization, content and purpose of the whole book. In the second section, the author briefly summarizes the history of the island of Cyprus until 1974 division, thereby opening up the history to the present day of northern Cyprus which is the book’s remit. Although the historical conflict between the ethnic groups is not the concern of this book, the ideological and political context from which the Turkish Cypriot experience and northern Cyprus’ story arose is told.
