Chapter 7 in Methods in Premodern Economic History, 2019, pp 243-318 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In total 68 reviewed sample studies provide an insight into how economic history was, is and can be done in practice. The reviewed sample studies contribute to the research questions outlined in Chaps. 2 , 3 , 4 and 5 . They do so by focusing on the economy of the Holy Roman Empire. They thus lay the foundation to combine the current debates in pre-modern economic history with the diverse and thorough research studies on the Holy Roman Empire. At the beginning of each reviewed sample study, we highlight the methods and sources employed in the respective work. Each entry starts with naming the reason why we picked this particular reviewed sample study. It then sketches the main results of the study, and describes the methods which the study employs and the sources it exploits. The entry concludes with some ideas about how the findings, methods or sources can be inspirational for further research.
