Chapter Chapter 2 in The Urban Logistic Network, 2019, pp 23-49 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The gateway of Gothenburg is more than the history of one city, it is the history of at least three, from the 1470s to modern times. As in all gateways, the transportation and the flow of goods are important and form the backbone of the chapter. Gateways are always a part of the international as well as the national, regional and local economy. The reasoning behind the founding of the first gateway city in the area was the expansion of trade and commerce in the Atlantic and the North Sea, and that is still today important to the modern gateway city.
