Abstract: Abstract Cooperation with Moçambique included trade agreements, as well as technical assistance for training needs amongst Mozambican staff, and provision of computational assistance and consultancy. It also based special negotiations related with the major investment made in colonial times for the Cahora-Bassa dam construction on the Zambeze river, for electricity production and distribution in Africa. Civil wars following independence damaged construction plans and included sabotage in 1984 on the transmission cables to South Africa. Bilateral and multilateral financial co-operation sought to minimize the Portuguese losses in the Cahora-Bassa dam, but they were substantial nonetheless. In 2005 Portugal sold its participation to allow moving control into the hands of the Mozambican government.
