Chapter Chapter 4 in Exploring the Roots of Systematic Tax Avoidance in Greece, 2021, pp 117-161 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter explores the years 1967–1974, which were marked by the abolition of democracy and the enforcement of a seven-year military coup. This period witnessed initially a considerable increase in the rate of growth which however gave way, towards the end of the period, to the gradual overheating of the economy. It is shown that the system of taxation continued to create difficulties for business, as, in spite of its declarations, the junta regime did not implement any measures for the modernisation of the system. Even worse, the policies that the regime introduced essentially dismantled the Central Service of the Ministry of Economics, which was responsible for managing the functioning of the tax services.
