Abstract:
Abstract This introductory chapter presents the main themes and concepts discussed in the volume. It provides an analysis of the literature on the history of money and currency in Africa and scrutinizes the most recent developments in the field of African monetary history. The chapter introduces the book chapters that form the volume and relates them to each other as well as to the main topics explored in the book. It concludes by discussing the broader impact of the study of money in Africa during the colonial period and suggesting possible paths for future research on this topic.
