Chapter Chapter 1 in Danish Capitalism in the 20th Century, 2022, pp 1-23 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines and explains the scientific approach undertaken in the book. The book follows an individualist methodology borrowed from economics and adapted for historical inquiry. An integral part of the approach is clearly defined constructs. The chapter further outlines rough periods of significant change in the twentieth century. Therefore the chapter examines what the twentieth century means in the context of the overall research agenda (as outlined in the preface). It builds on this by exhuming what ideas might constitute Danish Capitalism as an independent construct. Mainly the chapter argues for several features, both accepted and contested, of Danish Capitalism as a distinct version of capitalism. Throughout the chapter, the interplay between policy, institutions, and commercial behavior is illustrated. Finally, the chapter end with a short overview of the remainder of the book.
