Chapter Chapter 8 in Reframing Italian Economic History, 1861–2021, 2024, pp 159-228 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The chapter reconsiders the economic aspects of the Italian history since Unification and strives to provide answers to a number of unresolved questions. Among them: why was it that the institutional reform effort during the years following Unification—unprecedented in its intensity—did not translate into sustained rates of growth? And why has the same phenomenon seemed to have occurred in the last three decades?
