Chapter Chapter 1 in The European Miracle and Beyond, 2025, pp 3-15 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the many contributions of Eric Jones, one of the most important economic historians of the twentieth century. Drawing upon rich personal reflections, the comments of his peers, and a deep appreciation of his research, the chapter introduces readers to Jones’ work and career, identifying his enduring influences, not only within economic history but also across the social sciences and humanities more generally. Jones’ approach to historical analysis and the lasting lessons it offers to contemporary researchers are also considered. The chapter concludes by providing an overview of the volume, its origins, and purpose.
