Chapter Chapter 2 in Revenue-Raising Institutions, State Organization and Economic Change in the Early Modern Ottoman Empire, 2025, pp 7-15 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The Ottoman Empire (1299–1923) is usually considered one of the great early modern empires, like the Habsburg and the Mughal. Its taxation practices, however, are descended from the medieval Mediterranean empires of the Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ilkhanids.
