East Asia

Stephen Morgan

Chapter 35 in An Economist’s Guide to Economic History, 2018, pp 301-308 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract During the second half of the twentieth century, world economic activities shifted from the trans-Atlantic world to the economies of East Asia. Demographic factors and human capital were major sources of this growth, which in turn was facilitated by the social capital embedded in the networks of businesses that underpin these economies. These two dimensions of East Asia’s past are the focus of this chapter.
