Chapter Chapter 9 in International Business in Australia before World War One, 2022, pp 175-197 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract How did Australia compare with other hosts of international business before 1914? FDI found its way to many parts of the globe. According to estimates for 1914, nearly two-thirds of global FDI went to developing economies, mostly in Asia, especially China and India, and to Latin America, most notably Brazil, Argentina and Mexico. Of the remaining third going to developed economies, most was destined to the mature manufacturing nations of Western Europe along with the USA, Canada and the late industrialisers of Eastern Europe, primarily Russia (Fitzgerald 2015, 54–6).
