Chapter Chapter 5 in Global Challenges and Uncertainty in Tourism and Hospitality, Volume I, 2025, pp 133-157 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This study aims to analyse the relationships of hospitality firms with their business partners under an exogenous crisis situation. In doing so, we identify eleven key relational dimensions, categorised into background, manifest, and outcome, where we suggest particular managerial attention should be paid. Specifically, to cope effectively with an external crisis, we propose that interacting parties show understanding, foster trust, demonstrate solidarity, intensify communication, sustain commitment, strengthen cooperation, avoid opportunism, manage conflict, enhance coordination, and facilitate adaptation. We also report the findings of a survey among 203 randomly selected Greek hospitality managers regarding each of these dimensions in their working relationships with business partners during a recent major exogenous crisis event. The results reveal that almost all relationship dimensions had a more-or-less moderate impact.
